Board Position Descriptions
Community Member Representative - The Community Member Representative is an elected official from the community who advocates for the needs, priorities, and concerns of the county’s populations and constituents. This role involves acting as a liaison between the nonprofit and the broader community to ensure alignment with local needs and interests. They shall represent the county’s diverse populations in discussions, decisions, and initiatives undertaken by the nonprofit. They will advise the Board on community-specific challenges and opportunities to ensure programs and services have meaningful impact. The position also collaborates with other board members and stakeholders to develop strategies that address the needs of underserved or underrepresented groups. The Community Member Representative plays a critical role in fostering trust, inclusion, and accountability between the nonprofit and the county it serves.
Technology Industry Representative - The Industry Representative serves as a bridge between the nonprofit and the county’s technology business community. This role is focused on engaging with CEOs and technology businesses across the county to ensure diverse representation and collaboration. They advocate for the interests and priorities of the local technology industry within the nonprofit’s initiatives and strategies. Provide innovative ideas and recommendations for securing grants, enhancing education programs, and expanding training opportunities to benefit the community and the industry. Build partnerships and fostering dialogue between the nonprofit and key industry stakeholders to drive growth and innovation. The Industry Representative plays a pivotal role in ensuring the nonprofit remains aligned with the needs and aspirations of the county’s technology ecosystem.
Affiliate Representative - The Affiliate Representative serves as a leader and advocate for other nonprofit organizations, colleges, and universities in the county. This role focuses on representing the interests and needs of nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and community-based groups within the nonprofit’s strategic initiatives. Builds partnerships with other nonprofits and academic institutions to enhance collaboration, resource sharing, and collective impact. Leads efforts to integrate educational and community-based organizations into the nonprofit’s mission, ensuring alignment with county-wide initiatives. Facilitates discussions and creating opportunities for cross-sector collaboration to address key issues in the county’s education, workforce, and technology sectors. The Affiliate Representative plays a critical role in connecting and empowering nonprofit and educational institutions to work together toward the shared goals of the organization and the broader community.
Student Representative - The Student Representative acts as a liaison between the nonprofit and colleges and universities to address the educational and professional development needs of current and future students. This role involves engaging with academic institutions to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities in education and training related to the technology sector. Provides insights on the challenges and aspirations of students pursuing careers in technology. Collaborates with the nonprofit to develop programs, workshops, and resources that support student success and workforce readiness. Promotes awareness of the nonprofit’s initiatives and opportunities within academic communities. The Student Representative ensures that the voices and needs of the student population are represented, fostering a strong connection between education and the technology industry.
Associate Representative - The Associate Representative serves as a key connector between the nonprofit and service industries that support the technology business community. This role involves engaging with organizations and businesses in sectors such as legal, financial, training, consulting, and for-profit educational institutions to foster collaboration and support for the technology ecosystem. Promotes partnerships that provide valuable resources and services to technology startups and businesses within the county. Identifies opportunities for service-oriented organizations to contribute to the nonprofit’s programs, including workforce development, business consulting, and educational initiatives. Represents the interests of service industries within the nonprofit to ensure their inclusion in strategies and initiatives that benefit the technology business community. The Associate Representative helps build a supportive infrastructure for the county’s technology sector by leveraging the expertise and resources of allied industries.
Committee Position Descriptions
Membership Committee - The Membership Committee shall identify and encourage others to join Prince George’s County Technology Council. Additionally, they are responsible for promoting membership, acquiring new members, assisting the Secretary with maintaining current membership list, maximizing membership engagements, participating in planning/staging of the Annual Meeting.
Finance Committee - Shall have a responsibility to advise the Board on appropriate budgeting and accounting practices as a nonprofit Council. Other functions of this Committee shall be to propose an annual budget and to monitor income and expenditures and conduct an audit as directed by the Board. The Treasurer of the Council shall serve as Chair. The Finance Committee shall be composed of at least three Board members. In matters of extreme urgency where expediency dictates bypassing the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee may make binding decisions for the Council that must be immediately communicated to the entire Board.
Resource Development Committee - Shall have the responsibility of seeking funds necessary for the operation and maintenance of PGCTC. This function may be accomplished through governmental budgets, grants, corporate sponsors, personal contributions, in-kind services, special fundraising events and similar resources. A member of the Board shall serve as Chair and voting member of this committee.
Communications Committee – Shall be responsible for reviewing and editing all annual communications. The Committee should be informed of all upcoming events, mailings, and announcements in order for them to be reviewed and edited. The Committee shall also submit public relations and advertising materials for the foundation. The Committee will also be responsible for assuring consistency in branding and graphic standards. The Committee shall review all printed and electronic material as submitted by Standing and Special Committees.
Special Events Committee – The Events Planning Committee is responsible for organizing and executing events that align with the mission and goals of the organization. This includes planning educational, networking, and fundraising events to engage members, attract new participants, and promote the organization’s initiatives. The committee will identify event objectives, themes, and target audiences, manage event logistics, including venue selection, scheduling, permits, and vendor relations and create/adhere to event budgets, ensuring cost-effective planning while maintaining quality.
